Toshiba Expands Mobile Hard Disk Line
Toshiba Storage Device Division, a provider of small-form-factor hard disk drives (HDDs), has expanded its family of HDDs that are based on perpendicular magnetic recording (PMR) technology. The company is shipping 80-GB, 1.8-inch HDDs for consumer electronics devices and mobile computers.
The dual-platter MK8007GAH HDD is currently shipping in digital music and notebook applications and follows the 40-GB PMR drive that Toshiba announced in August.
Toshiba noted that PMR, a next-generation technology for enhancing data density on hard disks, is based on three key elements: a new magnetic disk structured to support perpendicular recording; a new high-performance perpendicular magnetic head; and disk and head integration technology that maximizes their combined performance.
