Police Cameras in High Crime Neighborhoods?
Fresno police may soon be watching your neighborhood 24 hours a day.
Today the city council will hear from the department about adding surveillance cameras to high crime areas.
Many people have come forward in support of the video policing plan.
East Fresno resident Grover Allen likes the proposal, “In this area, it’s pretty bad. You have guys driving crazy, shootings, stabbings, and stealing and all that. I think it’s a pretty good idea.”
But, some people hope the cameras won’t take the place of actual officers in high crime areas.
The program is still in the planning stages. The test alone costs about $250,000.
